James Vollberg

Production

Professional Background & Production Philosophy

James is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University's Entertainment Technology Center. Upon graduation, James joined the production team at Schell Games, where he shipped 7 titles over the course of 4 years. He then went on to work at PNC Financial Services in their Data department as an Agile Lead for the next 7 years. While at PNC, James transformed how his teams delivered internal live service applications, increasing frequency of new application releases as well as patches.

With an emphasis on people over process, James has successfully delivered projects of varying subjects, team size, and budgets. Understanding the issues a team faces, as well as cultivating a culture of transparency and collaboration, have been integral in James' approach to production and project management. Agile principles have been a good starting point, but need to be tweaked to fit the team, whether it be a client project, internal IP, or internal tools.

Communication is the most important thing on a team. Projects succeed or fail based on communication. Each project should have no surprises if communication is open and transparent. At the same time, everyone within the team wants to make something amazing.  Using conflict resolution skills, James is able to keep the team on track and working cohesively to achieve their ultimate goal. With this in mind, James keeps the channels of communication open for the team, clients are well aware where the project stands, and all stakeholders understand where the project sits during the production phase to ensure there are no unpleasant surprises at delivery.

With a passion for creating immersive and captivating experiences, James has a proven track record of making awesome things with awesome people. His people over process approach and attention to detail set him apart in the industry.
